Project Work 2007
A long overdue entry . Project work is over and done with . All those memories are deeply entrenched in me . I'll never trade those memories for anything else . Honestly , a big thank you to my team mates for providing that experience . Thanks for the trust they had in me too . Although we decided that there will be no leader in our group , sooner or later , I was appointed as the leader . We had no misunderstanding and thus , I managed to drive my team to excellence . Human excellence I would say . Thanks mates .
I chose to do on Task 1 : Groundbreaker . I chose Pele . Eventually , my group chose my Preliminary Idea ( PI ) . Initially , I decided to do a carnival in a primary school to showcase Pele but sooner or later , things took a turn . Some misfortune happened to me and I lost focus . I was off the track I should say . But , of course , God didn't give up on me . He gave me the strength to go on with my project . During my drama , I met this guy named Sara . He was working as a teacher in a spastic school - Spastic Children's Association of Singapore (SCAS ) . Suddenly , I got a bright idea .
I changed the whole concept pertaining to my Project Work ( PW ) . I decided to showcase Pele to the disabled- particularly to those affected with Cerebral Palsy ; thus creating awareness of disability sports . I decided to hold a Futsal Clinic during the National Disability League ( NDL ) followed by a "hit-the-hoola" mini competition and a video coverage of Pele's goals also providing informative pamphlets . I decided to carry out a segment of my showcase in SCAS . Sara really helped me . Even at one point , I met him at Clementi at 11.30pm to give my proposal to attain permission from his principal . Woo . Thank God , things went well for us . SCAS really opened our eyes . Well , frankly , I've never gotten the opportunity to mingle with the disabled and through this project , I got that opportunity . What really touched me most was that , although it was my decision to carry out all stuff pertaining to our PW , my group mates supported me throughout . They really enjoyed their time at SCAS . Aminah even told me that she is thinking of becoming a "special officer " . Wow . It certainly made a differance in our lives . Now , do you think I want to stop living ? .
I shall end my journey of PW with my script for my Oral Presentation ( OP ) . I was the last speaker and here we go .
Thank You Aminah . Good morning to one and all . Now , lets take a look at the reflections of our project . I'll be touching on "future benefits " and " Limitations and Recommendations " .
before that , from our test run on the Cerebral Palsy children ( CP children ) , we realised that our project is highly feasible .
But we can only assess the effectiveness of our project by ensuring that there's an influx of visitors to our futsal clinic . So how do we exactly do that ? . Yes . We realised the need for disseminating important information pertaining to our futsal clinic to elicit a good response from the general public . We may use the following promotional methods to garner a good public support . They are namely : Leaflets and Flyers .
Leaflets . Informative leaflets publicising on the details of our futsal clinic can be hung on bus railings . As our futsul clinic will be held at Hougang Sports Hall , we can circulate those leaflets on buses going towards Hougang Sports Hall .
Flyers . Flyers consisting of details pertaining to our futsal clinic can be randomly distributed to the general public . Flyers can attract a wider spectrum of passersby and commuters as they evoke curiosity and attract positive responses from the general public . Now , lets take a look at the reflections of our project .
Future benefits . We feel that our project is highly beneficial because it caters to the younger generation . We believe that our project can serve as a platform by the government to incorporate our project into the CIP - namely , Community Involvement Programme . By integrating our project into the school curriculum , we can develop a multitude of sensitive and reflective learners . Also enhancing the employment opportunities & mainstream interactions of the disabled , thus eradicating any possible accounts of discrimination of the disabled .
Limitations and Recommendations . Apart from the benefits of our project , let's analyse the limitations of our project . Firstly , our experiment is only limited for short term usage as our experiment was carried out on a small scale basis . To ensure the long-term success of our project , we suggest that teachers and parents educate the disabled and mainstream students on the importance of disability sports this creating awareness of the latter .
Next , in an interview with Clement Knights , their head coach , Ms Prema , told us that there are insufficient coaches to coach the CP children and the disabled children for disability sports . Thus we propose that the government introduce new courses in the Polytechnics to equip individuals with appropriate skills needed for specialised coaching of the CP children .
Our research have showed that Singapore Polytechnic together with National Council of Social Service , Infocomm Development Authority and Singapore Science Centre have been promoting and funding a programme known as "Assistive Technology " to help physically-disabled students cope with their disabilities . This also shows that the poly students are well-aware of disabled people thus we can use this opportunity to introduce new courses on helping out the disabled and we can ensure that we elicit good response from the Poly students . This will guarantee the effectiveness and feasibility and manageability of our project . Next , the government can also help out to show recognition to those courses and promote them . This would encourage many individuals to take up the course thus benefitting the society in the long run .
Additional research also shows that conducting soccer for the CP children isn't entirely a new idea . The enthusiasm and receptivity from the previous project -known as Soccer Bash 2007 - jointly organised by Football Association of Singapore ( FAS ) , Asian Women Welfare Association ( AWWA ) and Singapore Management University ( SMU ) for CP children can be channelled into our project , accentuating on the feasibility and manageability of our project . Also , to combat the problem of lack of fund , we can gain sponsorship from the organisations that I mentioned earlier .
In a nutshell , we feel that there is a need to create an awareness of disability sports . We also targetted the younger generation because we wanted the knowledge and awareness of the disabled to be ingrained at a receptive stage to create a more lasting effect . Next , the government can show more support and recognition for disability sports by initiating a live coverage of their sporting events . Also , we feel that discrimination of the disabled should be abolished from the society . Now it takes each and every individual to do this . So now
DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE THEM SMILE ?
